Pre-K-5 EL: Interboro SD English Language (EL) Program Overview

 

  • Purpose: Support non-native English speakers in developing skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking
  • Goal: Enable students to succeed academically and socially through improved English proficiency
  • Partnership: Interboro School District is part of the Title III consortium with the Delaware County Intermediate Unit




Curriculum and Instruction

  • Research-Based Curriculum: Focuses on developing English language skills for academic success
  • Language-Focused Instruction: Integrates academic content to enhance students' English reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities
  • Acquisition Timeline: Varies by student, influenced by individual factors
  • Summer Camp: Provides additional support for ongoing language acquisition during the summer months

    • InterpreTalk: On-demand interpretation service
    • Propio: Language translation support
    • Talking Points: Messaging service for multilingual communication
  • Parent Meetings: Conducted in multiple languages to encourage parental involvement in education
  • English Classes for Parents: Offered through the Delaware County Intermediate Unit (DCIU) to support parent language development
