About Our Mission
-
The Interboro Kindergarten Academy provides a high-quality early childhood program. The nurturing child-centered environment promotes physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of young children. The staff provides planned learning activities appropriate to the age and development of each child and classrooms are arranged to promote all areas of development through a variety of centers (i.e., drama, play, art, music, science, mathematics, storytelling, block building, table toys, writing, speaking, and listening).
The kindergarten curriculum, researched and provided by the district’s Office of Curriculum and Instruction, focuses on readiness skills of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and mathematics aligned with the common core standards. The atmosphere of the Kindergarten Academy encourages the development of the whole child, and includes spaces with particular focuses and strengths:- the multi-purpose room and gym provide space for large and small group interaction,
- the library and computer lab strengthen literacy and technical skills,
- the outdoor classroom provides opportunities for hands-on exploration in science using local habitats, which encourages children to be respectful of their environment, and
- outdoor playground space provides a safe environment for active play and social development. Music and physical education classes compliment the integrated curriculum, further enhancing development of the whole child.
Parents are encouraged to participate in their child’s learning program by reviewing daily work, communicating with the teachers and support staff, and attending parent evenings such as Back to School Night and literacy and math events. - the multi-purpose room and gym provide space for large and small group interaction,
