Assessment Philosophy
At Interboro School District, we utilize assessments to collect diagnostic information to guide instruction practices and provide interventions and enrichment for our students. The following assessments provide key information for our instructional team to ensure students are prepared to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally while becoming college and career-ready citizens within a global community.
Assessments
Orton-Gillingham Assessment
The Orton Gillingam assessment is used to evaluate and monitor student progress on previous and current phonetic concepts of instruction in reading and writing (decoding and encoding). More specifically, this assessment measures students ability to generate sounds to specific letters, write green words which are phonetically based words (words that can be sounded out using regular spelling patterns), red words (words that have irregular spelling patterns and must be learned through memorization), and writing sentences. A child is considered proficient if their percentage is 80% or higher.
Morphology
The Morphology assessment is utilized to determine student mastery of currently learned prefixes, suffixes, and Greek and Latin base. It is administered to students in grades 3 and 4. Morphology assessments help determine specific concepts that students are able to apply to a given word in order to understand the meaning of various words connected to concepts learned.
Acadience
Acadience Reading and Acadience Math are universal screening and progress monitoring assessments that measure the acquisition of early literacy and early math skills from kindergarten through eighth grade. It is comprised of a variety of subtests that connect to provide teachers with greater insight into students' specific reading needs and strengths for decoding and fluency, primarily. Students in grades K-2 take the Acadience Math screener and Students in grades K-8 take the Acadience Reading Screener.
SpringMath
SpringMath is a research-based math screener for K-8 students that helps teachers identify and address students who need extra help with math. SpringMath's screening assessments are timed and help identify skills that students should have already learned. The program offers tools for intervention, including paired learning, paper and pencil learning, and "show-what-you-know" learning. Students in grades 3-5 take the SpringMath screener.
CDT
The Pennsylvania Classroom Diagnostic Tools (CDT) is a set of online assessments, divided by content areas (Literacy, Mathematics, and Science), and is designed to provide diagnostic information to guide instruction in order to support intervention and enrichment. The CDT is a computer adaptive test (CAT) and depending on how the student responds to the first few items, the next set of items will adjust to the student's instructional level. Students receive approximately 48-60 items per test depending upon their response pattern.
At Interboro School District, students in Grades 3 - High School take CDT. Students in grades 3-8 take the Science, ELA, and Math CDT assessments. High School students take the CDT while enrolled in Biology, Algebra 1, and Literature.
PSSA and Keystones
PSSA
The Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) is an assessment used to measure student achievement in English Language Arts, Math, and Science based on PA state academic standards.
Keystones
End of course exams in English Literature and Biology, and assesses proficiency in anchors developed by PDE. End of course exams in Algebra 1 delivered during the winter session of Algebra 2
AP Exams
AP Exams are designed to measure how well students have mastered the content and skills of a specific AP course. Most AP courses have an end-of-year exam, but some include a culminating portfolio.
PSAT and ACCUPLACER
PSAT/NMSQT is a practice version of the SAT exam and measures the same Reading & Writing and Math skills students learn in the classroom. The Accuplacer is a placement test that helps colleges assess student readiness for introductory colleges courses in reading and math.
