    Dear Families,

    We are excited to announce our Summer Reading for students entering Kindergarten through Grade 2.  Students will have the opportunity to choose books from the provided book list to enjoy and then complete a Book Journal Entry telling their favorite part!  Then, in September, the students will return their Book Journals to their teachers for a reward! 

    The books listed make great read-alouds to be done with the family and are NOT expected to be read independently by the student. The titles on the list are just the beginning! There are also book series and beloved authors on there too, so explore away! 

    Steps for Summer Reading:

    1. Choose books from the provided K-2 list and complete one Book Journal Entry for each book

    2. Return your Book Journal to your school in September.

    Suggested Summer Book List

    Summary:
    Students entering grades K-2, will receive a list of picture book suggestions to be read with their families along with a book journal. This list is a starting point for great family read-alouds with the students being encouraged to read additional titles. Students will return the book journal during the first week of school to highlight the books they chose to read over the summer. There will be a reward for those students who return the book journal.

    Dear Families,

    We are excited to announce our Summer Reading for students entering Grade 3 through Grade 5.  Students will all receive a ‘Have Some Summer Fun Reading and Writing’ booklet.  Here there is a suggested book list of book series to enjoy and then log what they’ve read!  To help instill the love of writing, there are also suggestions of writing topics.  Students will write and illustrate.  Next, on a designated day during the summer, the students will be invited to a Book Party at their school!  The Book Party date and details vary according to community school, but will all be a fun event based around a book!  Then finally, in September the students will return their ‘Have Some Summer Fun Reading and Writing’ booklets to their teachers for a reward!    

    Steps for Summer Reading:

    1. Choose books from the suggested list and complete one Reading Log entry each book.

    2. Return your ‘Have Some Summer Fun Reading and Writing’ booklet to your school in September.

    The purpose of summer reading is to encourage our students to read for enjoyment while maintaining essential literacy skills that we have covered throughout the school year. Students will choose one book from the provided list and complete the bingo board based on the book that they selected. Page counts, genre, and summaries are included to help you make a decision on which book would be best for your student.

    Cameron Boxer is very happy to spend his life avoiding homework, hanging out with his friends, and gaming for hours in his basement. It's not too hard for him to get away with it . . . until he gets so caught up in one game that he almost lets his house burn down around him. Oops. It's time for some serious damage control -- so Cameron and his friends invent a fake school club that will make it seem like they're doing good deeds instead of slacking off. The problem? Some kids think the club is real -- and Cameron is stuck being president. The guy who never cared about anything is now at the center of everything . . . and it's going to take all his slacker skills to win this round.

Now Stanley has been unjustly sent to a boys' detention center, Camp Green Lake, where the boys build character by spending all day, every day digging holes. It doesn't take long for Stanley to realize there's more than character improvement going on at Camp Green Lake. The boys are digging holes because the warden is looking for something. But what could be buried under a dried-up lake? Stanley tries to dig up the truth in this inventive and darkly humorous tale of crime and punishment.

  • Summer Reading Assignment

    The purpose of summer reading is to encourage our students to read for enjoyment while maintaining essential literacy skills that we have covered throughout the school year. Students will choose one book from the provided list and complete the bingo board based on the book that he or she selects. Page counts, genre, and summaries are included to help you make a decision on which book would be best for your student. Students should then complete the assignment below.

    Your assignment is to get bingo by completing five activities from the bingo boards below. Your activities should create a straight line vertically, horizontally, or diagonally across the board. Additionally, you can also choose four corners and the center. See the possibilities below:

    Your assignment must be turned in on the first Friday of the school year to your ELA teacher. You can do it on paper, on your Chromebook in a Google Doc, or another similar format.

    *Books are available on Amazon, Target, Barnes and Noble, and Walmart sites. Please check your local library, as well. Lastly, we will have books available for students to borrow in each school’s office over the summer.
